Welcome to SUMS!

The Society of Undergraduate Materials Scientists strives to optimize the undergraduate Course 3 experience by planning social events and opportunities to get to know professors outside of the classroom setting. 

Academic Support

  • Feast with Faculty - We host faculty and a small group of students for dinner on campus to chat about their research and non-academic activities
  • Graduate School - Preparation for the grad school and fellowship application process by hosting panels of currnent graduate students, faculty and administrators 
  • Industry/Internships and Career - Advice on applying for industry jobs and internships by hosting panels of alumni and industry professionals
  • Undergraduate lounge with resources for preparing group presentations and collaborating on problem sets 

Social Activities

  • Undergraduate lounge stocked with snacks and coffee
  • Monthly study breaks
  • Student-Faculty socials at Muddy Charles pub

Global Opportunities

  • Info sessions on opportunities to study and do research abroad
